Aluvihara, north of Kandy (March 5, 2010)

The cultural triangle is in the middle of the Sri Lankan island. It represents the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka. At the monastery of Aluvihara lie several caves in which the Buddhist doctrine was first committed to paper, actually, the ola leaf. Found some interesting murals depicting scenes of sinners being punished by demons in the afterlife - who would have thought Buddhism was so gory!!
